Nieuw Amsterdam's interior design and art collection reflects the glamour and history of New York City. It has a new pan-Asian Tamarind restaurant and Silk Den lounge surrounded by panoramic views overlooking the ocean. Nieuw Amsterdam passengers tend to be 40-60, some families and Mainly American. When all cabins have double occupancy, the ship provides a space ratio of 43 tons per passenger and a crew to passenger ratio of one for every 2.2 passengers. At full capacity the space ratio is 40.8 tons per passenger and the crew ratio is one to 2.3 passengers.

Dancing with the Stars: At Sea
On select cruises, guest have the opportunity to participate in complimentary dance classes based on the routines from the ABC smash hit "Dancing with the Stars" and compete in the Dancing with the Stars: At Sea competition. On each of these cruise, a Cruise Champion will be selected, who will then have the chance to compete for the title of Grand Champion when 15 Cruise Champion have been selected.

To ensure that the efforts of all the crew members are recognised and rewarded, a Hotel Service Charge is automatically added to each guest' shipboard account on a daily basis.
At the time of printing, the Hotel Service Charge for suites is $12 per guest per day, and $11.5 per guest per day for other staterooms. The charges are subject to change without notice. If the service exceeds or fail to meet your expectations, you are free to adjust this amount a the end of the cruise. The Hotel Service Charge is paid to Holland America Line crew members and represents an important part of their compensation. A 15% service charge is automatically added to bar charges and dining room wine purchases.
